Silly postal services!

I've literally been waiting for my Breakbrake17 frame to arrive in the mail for like a week straight.  I've been tracking it like mad, I saw it leave for delivery this morning and was super excited.  However I had to leave to get to school by 2, so I left my place at 1:30.  I checked the tracking again just to see what's up and BAM.  right in between me leaving and arriving at school.  They had 'attempted' delivery.  Suuuuuuuuure.  I swear, this video is completely true!

My first dooring incident

I woke up a little late today but managed to meet up with a good friend of mine, Youngwook, for lunch.  We had a delicious meal of Korean food :D and were on our way to the library to get some studying done.  We were cruising down Bloor Street (which is a horrible street to ride..), when a door popped open right in front of me.  I tried to avoid it but there was moving traffic right beside me so there was really nowhere I could go, nor room to stop.  I literally clipped the door AS it was opening and ripped the door off of his hand.  All I remember after hitting the door is being thrown off my bike and watching a truck swerve around me as I was tumbling onto the ground.  Scary shit.

I hate thieves

I really hate thieves.  Please just go away and not bother normal people like us.

Today I biked to a grocery store to get some stuff because they had some sort of a sale going on.  I was in there for maybe 30-40 minutes.  I line up, pay for my stuff (yup, I rightfully purchased my own goods).  I walk out to my bike and guess what?  Some bastard decided it was a good idea to steal my lights.  I don't like riding in the dark without lights.  People don't know how to drive here during the day, it can get pretty scary here.

I've had my lights stolen before too and they're like, the $5 ones..  What are you gonna do with $5 lights that are low on battery..?   C'mon now.

Nice note

I came out of the library today and found a note on my bike's handlebar.  At first I was like wtf..?  Then I chuckled a bit.  There's multiple ways to go about creating flyers, and this may have to be one of the more efficient and fun ways.

Oh, salt..

Oops, I forgot to post these pictures!  It just shows the salt buildup on my bike..  SO much salt here as I mentioned before..

Toronto: snow, ice, salt, weirdos.

Guess what's in these two pictures!

ICE!  I know, I didn't see it either.  A couple of days ago the weather warmed up a bit and we got some rain.  That night it got real cold again, and it's only been getting colder and colder.  I guess all the slush just froze..  I found the bigger roads to be absent of these, but some of the smaller streets around my place were pretty frozen.  And yeah, I took my first fall of the season today where that second picture is taken.  When I got up, a nice old lady asked if I was okay.  Then immediately after telling me that's why she doesn't bike in the winter, she slipped as well haha.

Anyways, today was pretty freakin' cold, but I haven't brought my camera around with me in a while so I took this opportunity to take a couple photos while it was beautifully snowing.  Read on to check out some more pictures!

Busy busy busy busy busy

I had a pretty relaxing break back home, came back to Toronto and school started up again at full freaking speed.  I've been buried under a crapload of work already so haven't been doing too much bikes wise.  It's okay though, it's not like I'm missing out on beautiful weather or anything right now: the snow/slush/wind/cold has gotten to me.  Another disgusting fact is that Toronto dumps way too much salt everywhere.  Even on parts that the snow has melted, you see huge chunks of salt everywhere.  It rusts everything, and tastes gross when salty slush gets thrown up into your face.

Here's some rust on my winter bike :(

You can't fully see it in this second picture, but the chain is completely rusted on the inside haha.  It's purple outside, brown inside.

Snowboarding up at Cypress Mountain

Yesterday I headed up to Cypress Mountain to snowboard.  It was a gorgeous freaking day.  Snowfall in the morning, clear skies by noon, beautiful scenery from the mountain..  It was beautiful.  I wish I could share the view with everyone but my skills are very limiting still so I only came out with a few good shots :P

Oh, yeah.. I brought my YNOT Gulper up filled with my camera/video equipment, including the home depot glidecam I made..  I'll probably never ever do that again.  It was just annoying having to worry about all my stuff while riding, and taking pictures in the cold with no gloves = really cold hands, believe it or not..

Also, I apologize for the lack of posts, but I hope you understand that I'm back home on my break without my bike, so I don't have any bike content to entertain you guys with..  And it always gets so busy this time of the year..  Anyways!!  Some more pictures for you to enjoy :)

Home sweet home

DSC_5726

Today I flew home to Vancouver to spend Christmas with my family.  Flight was pretty decent, don't remember much of it at all.  I had stayed up all night the 2 nights prior to cram for my last exam, took a short nap and stayed up the night before my flight to pack.  By the time I was settled in the plane, I was ready to pass out.

Not much more to say than that..  I flew home, I'm staying here over the break and going back to Toronto to shred on my bicycles :)

But check out some photos below from the airport and such!

New toys: flashes!!

DSC_5599

Every since I stumbled into "photography", I've dreamed of being able to afford a proper flash setup, they can make tremendous improvements in photos if set up correctly.  Well there's no way I could afford the proper stuff, so I settled for some optical slave flashes, they just fire whenever they see a change in light intensity, so a flash on the camera can set them off.  You can't adjust their intensity or anything, but with proper settings on the camera, I think you could get close to what you'd want..?  I hope at least haha.

Back to studying now..

My view

This is what I see off to the side of my bed.  I pretty much live in a cave, so I don't get much sunlight in at all.. So I rely on my automatic timer'd lights and view of these bad boys to get me out of my bed..  Yeah, like a lab rat..

Actually, I have a super hard time getting up in the morning, so this doesn't help too much either, but it doesn't hurt to hope right??

By the way, I still haven't had time to ride the bmx yet, I've only spent about 5 minutes on it so far haha..  I wish school would be over right this instant!

Knives.. I don't like them too much

Don't leave your knives to dry with the blade pointing up like this while you're still washing dishes.  I know, I know..  "I won't cut myself on it.."  "I know it's there.."  "I'm not stupid.."  I've thought it all.  While transferring a dishes onto the rack, I cut my finger open on it.  I ended up having to get myself to the emergency and get it stitched up..  It's gory but click on the expandy thing to see a picture..

Snow!

It finally started snowing properly here a couple days ago.  The kind where the snow actually sticks to the ground.  It's really nice to see the snow falling and everything.  But I hate how dirty it becomes soon after haha.  All the roads get salted down and the crap becomes super nasty!

I rode to my test last night and even with a fender on, my bag got pretty nasty.  And the front part of my jacket which is white, gets filled with crap as well.  GRR.

This is how I study

Today I met up with a buddy of mine to study a bit.  My next test is my English class and I have multiple novels I need to read still.  So I brought one of them over to read.  God bored, asked him to film me a couple lines and this happened:

It was filmed in like 10 minutes, the floor was very slipper, and there was barely any room to correct my fakie directions or anything haha..  Most of my study sessions actually end up with me goofing off..  I hate studying, can't really stand it for too long haha..

Hectic days

Oh man, so as it reaches near the end of a semester, school has decided to torture me yet once again.  This week had I had a test Wednesday evening from 6-9, and another test Thursday from 12-2.  It's sad to say but I wasn't quite fully prepared for either of those tests.  Oh well, at this point I just wanna get it all done with..

Winter build: Part 2

So I finally picked up my tire from Tom and put it on my wheel last night to find out that it doesn't fit. The fork I'm using is too short.

Milk bags. Milk bags?! Milk bags.

It's true, in Canada, milk comes in bags.  No, it doesn't mean that there aren't jugs or cartons of milk.  We just have milk bags as well.  That makes us crazy right?!  No, it makes us cooooooooool and environmentally friendly.  According to Wikipedia, 75% less plastic is used.  Enough with the ultra fun facts!  Enough already!

Anyways, I've been in Canada over half my life and tonight, for the first time, I bought milk bags.  I feel soooooo complete and satisfied.

Here are some pictures:

DSC_3452
1. They come in big bags like this, 4L (1 gallon ;) ).

2. Inside are 3 smaller bags like these!

3. Put in jug, cut two holes at the top.

4. Pour and enjoy milk.

Winter build: Part 1

It's that time of the year again.  Snow will soon come to take over the streets once again.  And I want to be a little more prepared this time around.  Last winter, I used my trick bike as my "good weather bike" and my Fuji Track with track drops and 23c tires as my "winter" bike, just because I had a front brake and clip on fenders on it..

^This was taken prior to the said brake and fenders.  And there have definitely been times where I felt very uncomfortable on the slippery roads with that bike.  But it looked pretty slick right?!
