Have you ever been run over on the face?
This past Saturday after the minidrome, everyone went down to a local pub/bar thing for an after party. I was kinda hesitant, but decided to drop by for a bit. All is good (kinda boring) until I decide to call it a night. I think it was around 1:30am when Denis, Michelle, and myself started heading north toward our living areas. Now, this weekend had gorgeous weather for us Torontonians, but this night I had shorts and a tshirt on, and it turns out that it gets a little chilly at night, especially when you're beat. Naturally, being the stupid FGFSer that I am, I decided to jump around while riding fast to warm my body up. A few minutes later, I'm jumping up a curb, then back down.. I find myself in one of the worst experiences of my life. As I was hopping off the curb, my front end dipped way down and I landed on my front wheel, with the bars turned. I flipped over and tumbled for a split second with my bike still attached to me..
This is when it happened, and it all happened so fast haha.. Like I said, we were going pretty fast, I landed and tumbled right in front of Denis. He didn't have any time to react, so he ended up riding over my face and the weight of him and his bike drove the back of my head into the ground pretty hard. Immediately I had a welt on the back of my head the size of an egg, which was apparently visible just by looking at my head from the side. This is the first time feeling unsure if I was okay or not after getting hurt.. But I ended up alright.. I had tire marks on my face and both hands.. There's SO many ways that this could have gone worse, I feel super blessed to have gotten away from that with just a couple scrapes and a bump.
Moral of the story is this. Shit happens, and it happens fast. Be safe everyone!
Be safe and make sure to wear a helmet for 24 hours after any crash...
